Job Summary
The Director of Youth Ministry will serve as coordinator for the St. Mary Immaculate Conception youth program under the guidance and direction of the Pastor of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish. All programs must align with the teaching of the Catholic Church, the instruction of the Bishop, and the Diocesan Catechetical guidelines.
Ministerial CharacterThe Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish, entrusted by the Bishop to fulfill Christ’s mission. He enlists suitable collaborators—clerics, religious, or laypeople—with whom he shares his mission and entrusts responsibilities. Employees in this position directly support the Pastor and engage in ministry for the Church.
EssentialJob Duties
- Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling Catholic teachings.
- Instruct youth in the Catholic Faith using Catechism, Bible, and diocesan-approved materials.
- Be actively involved in parish life.
- Develop and lead a youth program for Junior High (6‑8th grade), High School (9‑12th grade), and Young Adults (18‑25), incorporating catechesis, prayer, retreats, and social activities.
- Focus on programming for post‑Confirmation high‑school students and Blinn College students with suitable catechesis, prayer, retreats, and social activities.
- Prepare the annual calendar, attend scheduled parish staff meetings, and communicate consistently with youth, parents, and core team volunteers.
- Maintain records as required by parish and diocesan policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.
- Knowledge of the structure and basic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Knowledge of diocesan catechetical guidelines.
- Effective communication by phone, email, and in person with the Pastor, parents, youth, and volunteers, including creation of marketing materials and graphics.
- Ability to recruit, organize, and lead core team volunteers while coordinating key tasks that support the youth ministry program.
- Flexibility in scheduling, with availability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional after‑hours events.
Education and Training:
High School Diploma or GED acceptable to the Texas Education Agency.
- At least two (2) years of related full‑time wage‑earning experience.
- English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing).
- Spanish (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing). Preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in public speaking.
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
- Compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout employment.
- Employees are deeply engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in carrying out Church obligations.
- The parish is an at‑will employer.
- All buildings and vehicles owned by the parish are tobacco free.
- Work is performed in a fast‑paced environment with rapidly changing priorities and plans.
- Exposure to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic prayer and liturgical celebrations.
- Adherence to established dress codes and conduct standards is required.
- Use of personal or parish vehicle may be required for off‑site locations.
- Travel within and outside the parish for meetings and events may be required, including overnight lodging.
