Job Title: Substitute
Reports to: Human Resources, Principal, Supervisors, Teachers as applicable
Pay Grade: Substitute
Wage Status: Non-Exempt
General Responsibilities:
- Arrive promptly at the assigned time and location to assemble materials needed for the day and receive necessary directions.
- Park in the designated area; do not park in areas marked "Visitor".
- Report directly to the principal's office for classroom instructions and daily responsibilities.
- Complete a Substitute Sign‑In Report (see Appendix
B) to ensure proper reporting to the Payroll Office. Before leaving school, confirm whether to return the following day. - Perform any special duties assigned by the classroom teacher.
- Check room condition, noting lighting, temperature, and seating arrangements.
- Familiarize with emergency drill procedures.
- Prevent students from leaving the room unless necessary; use discretion.
- Send sick or injured students to the school nurse or, if a serious accident, to an administrator immediately.
- Inform the school office if a student needs medication; only authorized district employees may administer medication.
- Notify the school office of any serious problems experienced during the day before leaving the campus.
- Supervise the dismissal of any class (e.g., for recess).
- Leave the room in good order, turn out lights, and perform other appropriate housekeeping chores.
- Fulfill all other duties assigned by the campus/district administration.
- Dress as a professional educator; professional casual is recommended.
- Follow all safety guidelines provided by the district.

- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
- Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
