SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of this position is to:
Serve in a key staff professional position as the top education and senior adviser to the commanding officer and staff of a United States Air Force (USAF) technical service school. Provides leadership, advice, expertise, and guidance throughout their organization in the areas of instructional systems design, development, sustainment, training operations and management, organization and staffing, and student programming and administration in support of Department of Defense (DoD) military training programs.
Also, provides technical and administrative supervision to a limited number of staff (typically less than five positions with at least one civilian), duties requiring less than 25% of work time. DUTIES:
* Serves as the top education advisor and senior management consultant to the commanding officer and staff of a major technical service school.
* Provides advice in formulating the broad educational and training policies of the technical service school and directs or leads broad studies that affect command and USAF missions.
* Represents the technical service school with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
* Provides technical and administrative supervision to a limited number of staff (typically less than five positions with at least one civilian), requiring less than 25% of work time. Requirements Conditions of employment

* Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
* May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours

* Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
* Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
* Must meet positive education requirements specified in the OPM qualification standards for 1750 series
* Position is Centrally Managed and PCS is authorized Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-1750, Instructional Systems Series. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:: A Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours appropriate to the work of the position to be filled.
The course work must include study in at least four of the following five areas: (1) Learning theory, psychology of learning, educational psychology; (2) Instructional design practices (3) Educational evaluation (4) Instructional product development, OR (5) Computers in education and training. Some positions in this series may specialize in one or two functional areas, where more specific academic preparation may be necessary.
For such positions, agencies may require course work in the applicable functional area(s) as part of the above-required 24 semester hours.

EXPERIENCE:
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-13, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include possessing expert professional knowledge of learning theory, psychology of learning, and education psychology including application of learning theories as it relates to systematic design, development, and validation of instructional programs to provide leadership, advice, and guidance throughout the technical service school.
Advanced knowledge of industry-standard instructional design practices which includes application of principles and techniques used to design training programs, develop design strategy and models, and apply design methods to develop or improve instructional effectiveness, anticipate changes and new developments in technology and relevant educational fields, develop appropriate advance plans, and develop and introduce new or revised program objectives, systems, and concepts.
