Part Time Counselor, LPC or LPC - Associate
The Blinn College District is searching for a Part Time Counselor, LPC or LPC - Associate at our Brenham Campus.
Job SummaryTo provide brief short-term individual and/or small group counseling, crisis intervention, personal and social development for Blinn College students enrolled the Brenham, Schulenburg, Sealy and Waller Campuses. Counseling sessions can be conducted face-to-face and/or virtually. The LPC or LPC - Associate would also assist in determining classroom accommodations for students who identify as having a learning, physical, or psychological disability.
Principal Accountabilities- Provide brief individual and small group counseling in the areas of crises intervention, personal and social development, information services, and consultation to assist students in making more informed decisions.
- Maintain database of confidential counseling notes using the Guardian system.
- Initiate referrals of students to appropriate external agencies when warranted so that the students can receive the appropriate counseling assistance.
- Research and provide updated material to staff on mental health issues.
- Assist with the supervision of Student Workers concerning mental health counseling issues.
- Submit weekly data relating to counseling activities to Director of Disability Services and Counseling.
- Analyze psychological testing data for the intake process of current and prospective students who identify themselves as requiring disability services while maintaining confidentiality as required by law. Complete Letter of Accommodations for students approved for classroom accommodations.
- Acts as liaison between parent/student and faculty regarding classroom and testing accommodations. Assist with proctoring and maintaining integrity of exams.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
- Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field.
- LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) or equivalent, or LPC - Associate (LPC certification must be obtained within 18 months).
- Direct experience in mental health counseling.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and public relations skills.
- Demonstrate understanding of and commitment to Blinn College's mission and purpose, teaching and learning, high academic standards, and student success.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Ability to interface with and communicate effectively with deans, directors, chairs, faculty, students, prospective students, and parents.
- Must be dependable, self-motivated, and able to serve students in an adequate time frame. Ability to plan ahead, manage time well, always seeking methods for continuous improvement.
- Master's Degree from an accredited university in Counseling and Guidance
- LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor)
- Two or more years of experience in direct counseling
- Experience in initiating referrals of students in crisis to appropriate external agencies.
- Knowledge of principles, methods, diagnosis of physical and mental dysfunctions, and relevant knowledge to prepare and maintain all required confidential treatment records and reports.
- Experience in keeping staff informed of mental health issues by providing workshops.
The individual hired for the position of Counselor, LPC or LPC - Associate may work up to 19 hours per week Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. The individual will conduct counseling sessions in-person and/or virtually in a private office setting. The individual will work closely with the full-time Counselor on the Brenham Campus and other Counseling staff on the Bryan and RELLIS Campuses.
