Job Description
The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus‑based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state. This role supports a therapeutic specialty (e.g., supported employment job coaching, vocational rehabilitation, vocational/day program) under moderate supervision.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs)- Attends work regularly; may work a specific shift schedule, rotating schedule, extended shift, or overtime as required.
- Prepares materials for assessments from prior data and assists in conducting assessments as directed.
- Accompanies individuals to and from activities and appointments when required.
- Prepares materials for therapeutic activities and maintains supplies.
- Performs housekeeping duties in therapeutic activity areas.
- Provides hands‑on assistance to individuals for assigned therapeutic specialty.
- Conducts direct contact observations and completes observation notes.
- Collects data related to treatment plans.
- Provides feedback to the interdisciplinary team regarding progress and assists in developing treatment plans.
- Provides feasible treatment goals aligned with the team’s best interests.
- Maintains current skills related to responsibilities.
- Participates in disaster response, recovery, or COOP activation as required.
Skills And Abilities
(KSAs)
- Knowledge or ability to gain knowledge of relevant therapeutic techniques.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Experience or ability to use equipment, tools, and materials used in therapeutic activities.
- Ability to assist in developing treatment and support plans.
- Ability to collect data for assigned therapeutic specialty (e.g., music therapy, therapeutic recreation, dance/movement therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, or vocational rehabilitation).
- Proficiency with personal computers and relevant software.
- General knowledge or ability to learn ICF‑IID regulations and State Supported Living Center policies.
- Physical ability to meet requirements of direct contact staff.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.
- Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire. Applicants with out‑of‑state licenses must provide an original certified driving record.
- High School Diploma, GED, or prior employment.
- Experience working or volunteering with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities or in performing therapeutic work.
- Experience assisting therapists in a therapeutic specialty (e.g., music therapy, therapeutic recreation, dance/movement therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, or vocational rehabilitation).
