A Brief Summary of This Position
Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, the CNC Shape Cutter Operator operates the CNC shape cutter machine with oxy‑fuel and plasma torches to produce metal components.
Compensation & BenefitsStarting hourly pay rate (LG6): $24.47 + $1.00 per hour shift differential. Eligible for annual discretionary bonus. Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year & 2 years.
Shift3rd shift (Nights) Monday - Thursday 9PM – 7AM.
Essential Functions- Read daily workloads to determine what parts are required, prioritize according to constraints and shipping buffers.
- Determine required material, check material on hand, order additional materials from Stores.
- Instruct material handlers on what material to load/unload, return to Stores, and how to load tables to maximize productivity.
- Check material for grade, thickness, and size.
- Color‑code parts as required per routing.
- Read prints, determine tolerances, and check parts against prints to ensure quality. Make adjustments to processes such as travel speed, tip size, tip replacement, gas pressures, kerf compensation, torch height, etc.
- Perform all functions associated with operation of the CNC/DNC shape cutting machine: start‑up and shutdown, transfer of programs to/from the host computer, set up programs, originate programs from standard shapes, modify programs between oxy‑fuel and plasma, adjust kerf settings.
- Understand all functions on CNC: plasma cutting tips/nozzle size and speed charts, oxy‑fuel cutting tips and gas pressures, kerf settings, amperage settings, standard shapes, keyboard to computer, instruction manuals.
- Carry out daily, weekly, and monthly operator preventive maintenance.
- Communicate problems with CNC shape cutter or any equipment to lead person, supervisor, or maintenance.
- Assist maintenance personnel in maintaining and troubleshooting the system.
- Use measuring instruments: tape measure, level, protractor, micrometer.
- Determine optimum plate utilization to minimize scrap.
- Maintain housekeeping in assigned areas.
- Be responsible for safety and environmental issues regarding assigned area, material handling, crane use, vacuum lift use, cutting torch, hot parts, lifting weight limits, eye protection, and minimizing smoke during cutting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 6 months previous experience reading and utilizing blueprints.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Proficiency in math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimal conversion.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure and micrometer.
- One year of previous experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- One year of previous experience operating a forklift.
- One year of previous experience operating a CNC machine with G‑code programming.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to communicate and interact with coworkers positively.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow work instructions.
- High awareness for safety at all times.

Ambient temperatures in the work area vary with seasonal weather changes. Exposure to metal, smoke fumes, and abnormal noise levels requiring hearing protection at all times. Exposure to dirt, grease, mill scale, cutting fluid, rust inhibitors, metal particles, and splinters. Incumbent will be required to wear PPE such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, head protection. Frequent exposure to outside elements, forklift, straddle trucks, and other material‑handling equipment.
