Job Overview
Under the direction of the Production Supervisor or Lead Person, the Crane Operator will be responsible for operating the outdoor plate crane to support storeroom, shipping, and manufacturing.
Standard Shift: 2nd shift (Evenings) Monday – Friday 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM.
Hourly Pay Rate (LG4): $20.34 + $1.00 per hour shift differential. Eligible for annual discretionary bonus. Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year, and 2 years.
Responsibilities- Operate the outside plate crane to support storeroom, shipping, and manufacturing operations.
- Use tape measure and micrometer to measure dimensions of raw material.
- Frequently operate straddle trucks and forklifts to move product to its proper location.
- Ensure inventory accuracy while performing staging, loading/unloading, and delivery of product and materials from inventory location, manufacturing WIP order, and shipping requirements.
- Perform cycle counts as required.
- Use inventory picklists to remove product from inventory for manufacturing WIP orders and shipping orders.
- Load product and materials on trailers from inventory locations and stage loaded trailers in the trailer staging area.
- Transport bolstered materials to staging areas and to/from inventory locations.
- Help perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Report any unsafe issues to the department lead person, supervisor, or maintenance technician.
- Maintain good housekeeping by keeping work area free of debris and trash.
- Ensure all scrap tubes from the tube mill and small pole manufacturing departments are disposed of properly.
- Use outdoor plate crane to unload materials from trailers and rail cars and receive into inventory.
- Use proper transaction to move material in and out of inventory.
- Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Read tape measure and micrometer.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic math (add, subtract, decimals, and fractions).
- Proficient forklift operator certification.
- Proficient in operating a straddle truck.
- Completion of overhead crane training program.
- Ability to read and write English.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience operating an overhead crane (≥1 year).
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment (≥1 year).
- Experience operating heavy equipment (≥1 year).
- Accurate and honest quality assurance checks.
- Passion, integrity, and drive to excel and deliver results.
Incumbent will be exposed to production facilities where personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, and head protection will be required. Work will be outdoors for extended periods. Physical effort is moderate to heavy: continuous heavy lifting of 35–50 lb. 80–90% of the time; standing, bending, or walking 85% of the time; climbing up to 8 ft; pushing and pulling in close quarters.
