Available Shift: 3rd Shift - Monday through Thursday, 9:00 pm – 7:00 am

Starting Hourly Pay Rate: $24.47 plus $1.00 per hour Shift Differential

Eligible for annual discretionary bonus

Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year, and 2 years

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, the CNC Operator operates the CNC shape cutter machine with oxy‑fuel and plasma torches to produce metal components.

Essential Functions
  • Read daily workloads to determine required parts and prioritize according to constraints and shipping buffers.
  • Determine needed material, check inventory on hand, and order additional materials from Stores.
  • Instruct material handlers on loading/unloading, returning materials, and maximizing table throughput.
  • Check material for grade, thickness, and size; color‑code parts as required per routing.
  • Read blueprints, determine tolerances, and inspect parts for quality; adjust travel speed, tip size, gas pressures, kerf compensation, torch height, and other parameters as needed.
  • Perform all functions related to operation of the CNC/DNC shape cutting machine including startup/shutdown, program transfer, setup, originating programs from standard shapes, and modifying programs between oxy‑fuel and plasma.
  • Implement all CNC functions such as plasma cutting tips, nozzle size charts, oxy‑fuel cutting tips, gas pressures, kerf settings, amperage settings, and keyboard operations.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance.
  • Communicate equipment problems to lead person, supervisor, and/or maintenance for resolution.
  • Assist maintenance personnel in troubleshooting and maintaining system performance.
  • Use measuring instruments such as tape measure, level, protractor, and micrometer.
  • Determine optimal plate utilization to minimize scrap.
  • Maintain housekeeping in assigned areas and ensure safety and environmental compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • 6 months of experience reading and utilizing blueprints.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing English.
  • Strong math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimal conversion.
  • Accurate use of tape measure and micrometer.
Highly Qualified Candidates Also Possess These Qualifications
  • 1 year of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • 1 year of experience operating a forklift.
  • 1 year of experience operating a CNC machine with G‑code programming.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Positive communication and coworker interaction skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow work instructions.
  • High awareness of safety at all times.
  • Passion, integrity, and a drive to excel.
Working Environment and Physical Efforts

Ambient temperatures fluctuate with seasonal weather. Exposure to metal and smoke fumes, abnormal noise levels requiring hearing protection, and direct contact with dirt, grease, mill scale, cutting fluid, rust inhibitors, and metal particles. PPE such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, and head protection is required. Employees will also be exposed to outside elements, material handling equipment including forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks.
