Overview
The Welder works under the direction of the Production Supervisor or Lead Person and is responsible for set‑up and assembly of products for the unit by performing production welding and tack welding to pole shafts using the GMAW process at Valmont Industries, TX.
Shift Opportunities- 1st Shift – Monday to Friday, 7:00AM to 3:00PM
- 2nd Shift – Monday to Friday, 3:00PM to 11:00PM
- 3rd Shift – Monday to Friday, 11:00PM to 7:00AM
- Additional work may be required outside the standard shift schedule.
Starting hourly pay rate (LG6): $24.47. Shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shifts: $1.00 per hour.
Responsibilities- Use the GMAW process to tack weld various small components to round or square shafts to assemble a pole assembly for structural welds.
- Manually position shafts on a stationary turner and use a jib crane to lift components such as base plates and arm mounting simplices into position.
- Read and interpret drawings to determine parts needed and to ensure proper attachment locations.
- Locate and gather parts from the staging area staged by storeroom personnel.
- Use a plasma torch to cut steel and jigs for cutting holes in shafts for hand hole rims, arm mounting simplex, couplings, and other small parts.
- Measure distances and angles with tape, levels, squares, and angle finders; convert between feet, inches, fractions, and decimals.
- Work in confined areas, move under, around, and over poles, and use motorized grinders, buffers, stone grinders, and drills to assemble products.
- Maintain safety awareness and report any unsafe conditions or training needs to management.
- Consult management if asked to perform work for which you are not trained or are uncomfortable due to safety or risk implications.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Experience with GMAW welding – required to pass GMAW 1‑G flat plate and/or rotational weld test and maintain certification.
- Minimum 6 months’ welding experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, or completion of an acceptable technical training program focused on welding.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1 year of welding experience in an assembly environment.
- 1 year of welding experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- 1 year of experience operating hand and/or power tools.
- Ability to accurately and honestly check one’s own work for quality assurance.
- Person of passion and integrity who is driven to excel and deliver exceptional results.
Must be able to stand for entire shift, bend, stoop, crawl, and occasionally climb. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; average lift weight is 25 pounds. Adequate dexterity and stamina required to sustain expected production. Continuous awareness and concentration demanded; eyesight must be correctable to 20/20 or better.
