Position: Large Pole Fitter Welder (Skilled)

A Brief Summary Of This Position

While working under the direct supervision of the Production Supervisor in the Large Pole Assembly Department, the Fitter Welder assembles products of the unit by tack welding various small parts to pole shafts using GMAW, FCAW, and SAW welding processes. This work is performed within prescribed codes, procedures, specifications, and drawings. The incumbent will also weld out products to meet code requirements, including ultrasonic testing.

  • 2nd Shift Standard

    Schedule:

    Monday
    - Friday 3PM - 11PM.
  • 3rd Shift Standard

    Schedule:

    Monday
    - Friday 11PM - 7AM.
  • As needed, there will be work hours outside the standard shift schedule.

Starting Hourly Pay Rate (LG11): $28.72.

Shift Differential for 2nd & 3rd shifts: $1.00 per hour.

Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year, and 2 years.

Eligible for annual discretionary bonus.

Essential Functions
  • Uses GMAW to tack weld small components to round or square shafts and SAW for structural welds, assembling components such as shafts, base plates, hand holes, arm mounting simplex, hanging vangs, brackets, ladder clips and other small parts.
  • Manually positions shafts on stationary turners and uses a jib crane to lift components like base plates and mounting simplex into place, frequently pushing, lifting, and pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Reads and interprets drawings to determine parts needed for assembly, locating and gathering parts from the storage area staged by storeroom personnel.
  • Ensures proper attachment of small parts as indicated by drawings.
  • Uses a plasma torch to cut steel and jigs to cut holes in shafts for hand hole rims, arm mounting simplex, couplings, and other small parts, wearing protective goggles or a hood.
  • Measures distances and angles with measuring tape, levels, squares, and angle finders, performing conversions between feet, inches, fractions, and decimals.
  • Works in confined areas along the pole assembly line, moving under, around, and over poles to achieve proper positioning for assembly.
  • Operates motorized grinders, buffers, stone grinders, and drills to assist with assembly.
  • Maintains necessary professional competencies, certifications, and licenses.
  • Reports training needs to management and consults when asked to perform work outside of training or comfort level.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area, implementing LEAN practices.
  • Sets up, operates, and performs general maintenance on equipment without difficulty.
  • Maintains an acceptable first‑pass yield percentage based on shop standards.
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

)
  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • 3‑5 years of experience fitting in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Ability to calculate simple mathematics and use common manufacturing mathematics.
  • 3 years of experience reading and using blueprints.
  • 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, and/or graduation from an acceptable technical training program focused on welding.
  • Must pass FCAW, GMAW, and SAW weld tests and maintain certification.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes (prior experience preferred).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5 years of experience working in an assembly environment.
  • 5 years of experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • 5 years of experience operating hand and/or power tools.
  • Ability to accurately and honestly check one’s own work for quality assurance.
  • Passion, integrity, and a drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.
