Midsize Pole Fitter Welder; Skilled

Job Summary

A Brief Summary of This Position:
While working under the direct supervision of the Production Supervisor/Lead person in the Mid‑Size Department, the Fitter Welder assembles products of the unit by tack welding various small parts to pole shafts using the FCAW welding process, following prescribed codes, procedures, specifications, and drawings.

Days 1st Shift Standard

Schedule:

Monday – Friday 7:00AM – 3:00PM. As needed, work outside the standard shift may be required. Starting hourly pay rate (LG10): $27.66 plus $1.00 per shift differential. Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year, and 2 years; eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.

• Use GMAW process to tack weld small components to round or square shafts to build pole assemblies.
• Use SAW process for structural welds.
• Position shafts on a stationary turner and use a jib crane to lift parts into place.
• Read and interpret drawings to determine parts needed and ensure proper placement of attachments.
• Cut steel with a plasma torch and use jigs for hole cutting on shafts.
• Measure distances and angles with tape, levels, squares, and angle finders; perform calculations with fractions, inches, and decimals.
• Operate motorized grinders, buffers, and drills to assemble products.
• Maintain professional competencies, certifications, and licenses; request training when needed; notify management if asked to perform untrained or unsafe work.

Standing 80%, bending 15%, average weight handled 25lbs, grinding 10%, buffer 10% of time. Exposure to heat, weld fumes, noise, sparks, and jet burns. Requires proper PPE, hearing protection, and eye protection. Working conditions vary seasonally.

• Read and write English.
• Use common manufacturing math.
• 1year experience reading and using blueprints.
• 1year experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment or completion of an acceptable technical training program focused on welding.
• Pass FCAW weld test and maintain certification.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2years experience in an assembly environment.
• 2years experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
• 2years experience operating hand and/or power tools.
• Ability to accurately and honestly check own work for quality assurance.
