Mission Hires is helping an established, multi-state healthcare organization lead enterprise payroll operations. As Director of Payroll, you will oversee a payroll leadership team and sizeable payroll staff, serve as the functional business leader for Oracle Payroll, and partner with HR, Finance, and IT to ensure accurate, compliant, efficient payroll operations and ongoing system optimization.
Responsibilities- Direct enterprise payroll operations for a large, multi-state workforce, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Lead, develop, and support Payroll Managers and a sizeable payroll operations team.
- Serve as the functional business leader and subject matter expert for Oracle Fusion Payroll and Oracle Payroll Cloud.
- Partner with HR, Finance, HRIS, and IT teams to prioritize and deliver payroll system enhancements, reporting improvements, and operational initiatives.
- Manage post-implementation Oracle Payroll activities, including quarterly release testing, payroll validation, troubleshooting, issue resolution, enhancement requests, and ongoing optimization.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local payroll laws, regulations, policies, and controls.
- Identify, implement, and measure process improvements that strengthen payroll controls, improve efficiency, and support automation.
- Enhance payroll reporting capabilities and support payroll accounting, general ledger reconciliation, and related financial controls.
- Support the continued transition of payroll functions into internal operations and maintain payroll best practices across the organization.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, collaboration, and high-quality service.
- 10+ years of progressive payroll leadership experience within a large, complex enterprise environment.
- Extensive hands‑on experience with Oracle Payroll, including Oracle Fusion Payroll and/or Oracle Payroll Cloud.
- Demonstrated post‑implementation Oracle Payroll experience, including quarterly release testing, payroll validation, troubleshooting, enhancement requests, and system optimization.
- Experience serving as a payroll business lead or payroll subject matter expert in partnership with HRIS, HR, Finance, and IT teams.
- Proven ability to lead payroll operations, manage payroll teams, and develop high‑performing leaders and staff.
- Experience leading multi‑state payroll operations in an enterprise environment.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll compliance requirements, payroll accounting, internal controls, and operational best practices.
- Ability to work in a hybrid role with regular onsite attendance and travel up to 20%; fully remote candidates will not be considered.
- Oracle Payroll implementation experience is preferred.
- Shared services payroll experience is preferred.
- Experience with payroll process automation, continuous improvement, payroll accounting, and general ledger reconciliation is preferred.
