Job SummaryThe Mortgage Underwriting Trainer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and conducting training sessions focused on mortgage underwriting practices, with an emphasis on the 4 C's (Capacity, Credit, Collateral, and Capital). This role requires a deep understanding of mortgage underwriting standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. The trainer will ensure that underwriters are equipped with the necessary skills to assess loan applications accurately and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities- Training Development: Design, develop, and update training materials, courses, and modules focused on US mortgage underwriting practices, regulations, and industry standards.
- Instructional Delivery: Conduct in-person and virtual training sessions, workshops, and seminars for new hires, existing employees, and other stakeholders on mortgage underwriting processes, guidelines, and risk assessment.
- Content Customization: Tailor training programs to meet the specific needs of different departments or teams, ensuring that all materials are relevant, current, and aligned with industry changes.
- Performance Evaluation: Assess the effectiveness of training programs through evaluations, feedback, and performance metrics. Provide constructive feedback and support to trainees to improve their skills and knowledge.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all training content complies with current US mortgage regulations, including Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, and other relevant guidelines.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with industry trends, new regulations, and best practices in mortgage underwriting. Continuously improve training content and delivery methods.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the underwriting team, HR, and management to identify training needs and gaps. Collaborate with subject matter experts to enhance training effectiveness.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of training sessions, attendance, and assessments. Provide regular reports to management on training outcomes and trainee progress.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in US mortgage underwriting, with at least 2 years in a training or mentoring role.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or a related field is preferred. Certifications in mortgage underwriting or training and development are a plus.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of US mortgage industry regulations, underwriting guidelines, and risk assessment processes.
- Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong presentation and instructional skills.
- Ability to simplify complex concepts for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in using training software, LMS, and virtual training tools.
