What this role is about
We re looking for someone who thinks holistically about how people experience outdoor spaces and who designs for durability, not just for the rendering. Mountain biking experience is an important asset for our bike-specific projects, but much of our work serves multi-use trails and general foot traffic, so this role designs first for the broadest range of users.
What you ll do- Design trail networks, recreation features, and custom amenities from concept through construction documentation
- Conduct site analysis and develop corridor alignments that optimize the user experience for the terrain, points of interest, and project priorities
- Create concept plans, feasibility studies, illustrative diagrams, and client-facing presentations
- Contribute to material specs and renderings, coordinating with our technical design team on buildable, fabrication-ready details
- Build trail experiences with a true beginner-to-expert progression
- Get out in the field: participate in site visits, construction oversight, and design refinement based on real-world conditions
- 3+ years designing trails, parks, or outdoor recreation spaces
- A strong point of view on aesthetics and function, balanced with genuine collaboration
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD/Civil3D, Sketch Up, and ArcGIS/QGIS
- Working knowledge of outdoor construction materials and how they hold up over time
- Bachelor s in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Design, or equivalent portfolio/experience
- Comfort working in the field — remote sites, varied conditions, and active construction
- Bonus points: experience with pump track or adaptive trail design, familiarity with NEPA/USFS permitting, and a personal love of riding, hiking, or running the places you design.
We ll prioritize candidates based in Southeastern USA, with a preference for Western or Central NC. We have team presence in Chapel Hill, Charlotte, and Brevard, NC. This role will include travel across the region and beyond.
We know great candidates don t always check every box — if most of this fits your experience and passion, we d love to hear from you.
