Registered Nurse General Surgery

Unit Overview

The K8 General Surgery Med‑Surg Unit at Mission Hospital is one of the largest and most dynamic units in the hospital. With 44 beds, it primarily cares for pre‑ and post‑surgical patients in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment. Nurses manage complex recoveries, frequent pain reassessments, and a high volume of medication administrations. Patient turnover is high, with 20 or more admissions or discharges within a single shift, requiring strong clinical judgement, adaptability, and excellent time‑management skills.

Provides leadership that facilitates the delivery of professional nursing care for the comfort and well‑being of patients. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide, delegate, supervise, document care, and teach patients and families. Implements medically prescribed interventions.

• Education:
  
  Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or enrollment in a BSN/advanced degree program; obtain a BSN within 5 years of hire. Grandfathering and exemptions may be approved as outlined by the CNO.
• License:
  Current licensure as a registered nurse with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. eNLC license may apply; must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Certification: BLS Healthcare Provider.
• Experience:
  
  Minimum one year of hospital nursing experience.
