Registered Nurse (Med-Surg Ortho)

Mission Health, based in Asheville, NC, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse Med-Surg Ortho to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to adult medical-surgical and orthopedic patients in a fast-paced, acute care environment. Working as a key member of an interdisciplinary team, you will be responsible for comprehensive patient assessments, planning and implementing individualized care plans, administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient responses, and coordinating care transitions to promote optimal patient outcomes and safe discharges.

The Registered Nurse Med-Surg Ortho will care for patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries such as joint replacements, fractures, and spine procedures, as well as adult medical patients with a variety of acute and chronic conditions. You will perform frequent physical assessments, manage post-operative pain and mobility plans, support early ambulation and rehabilitation goals, and provide thorough patient and family education on disease processes, medications, wound care, mobility precautions, and discharge instructions.

You will collaborate closely with physicians, surgeons, physical and occupational therapists, case managers, pharmacists, and support staff to deliver patient-centered, coordinated care.

• Utilize clinical judgment to prioritize patient needs and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
• Follow all clinical protocols and safety standards.
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record.
• Participate in bedside shift reports and interdisciplinary rounds.
• Adhere to infection prevention and fall-reduction practices.
• Manage IV lines and drains.
• Monitor laboratory and diagnostic results.
• Escalate concerns appropriately.
• Apply effective time management, organization, and communication skills while managing a diverse caseload on a busy Med-Surg Ortho unit.
