Position Overview

Somic America is seeking a motivated Manufacturing Engineering Intern who is interested in gaining hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.

This internship provides exposure to multiple facets of manufacturing engineering, including process improvement, productivity, ergonomics, equipment and tooling, quality, safety, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced professionals on projects that provide meaningful, real-world engineering experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform ergonomic evaluations, time studies, simulations, and line-balancing activities to improve productivity and efficiency.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and recommend opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist with plant safety initiatives and identify opportunities to improve workplace safety.
  • Assist in the design, development, and building of tools, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Create models and drawings of components using Solid Works.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing process documentation.
  • Participate in scrap and defect root-cause analysis and reduction activities.
  • Analyze and optimize assembly flow and processes to improve labor and machine utilization.
  • Support inventory activities as needed.
  • Assist with 5S implementation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment and production changeover processes.
  • Perform materials inspections.
  • Assist with troubleshooting manufacturing equipment and maintenance-related issues.
  • Participate in other engineering and continuous improvement projects as assigned.
Qualifications

Candidates should be currently pursuing a degree in an engineering-related field and have an interest in manufacturing operations and continuous improvement.

Successful candidates should possess:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with or working knowledge of Solid Works.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work in a hands-on manufacturing environment.

At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will be expected to provide a written report summarizing assigned projects, project goals, outcomes, accomplishments, challenges, and opportunities for continued improvement.
