Position: 2nd Shift Shipping/Receiving Operator (12674)

Summary

Responsible for the safe, damage free and accurate handling and storage of inbound and outbound material. Satisfy Somic America's Quality goals and objectives in completion of activities or duties (reference Somic America Quality Manual and Quality Policy).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Loads outbound and unloads inbound materials onto or from trucks, pallets, racks, and shelves.
  • Prepares customer shipments for service parts, export and other shipments: staging, strapping, wrapping and labeling.
  • Verifies pallets staged for shipment. Contacts trucking company for pick up.
  • Loads customer orders and receives returnable packaging.
  • Load and unload the truck (verifying pack slips are correct).
  • Sorting of returnable packaging coming back from customers logging all tote and pallet quantities on the Daily Tote/Pallet Tracking log.
  • Conducts inspections of returnable packaging to ensure compliance with customer standards.
  • Maintains traceability by using AIM to scan to shipment or logging lot numbers on shippers per Customer Standardized Work Instructions.
  • Checks in inbound raw material, assigns lot numbers in AIM, and prepares for incoming inspection. Moves inspected raw material to stock.
  • Coordinates with Shipping/Receiving Supervisor to complete PM activities ensuring supplies are readily available.
  • Sorts mixed skids of components and applies correct AIM receiving lot numbers.
  • Prints Kanban labels and customs invoices for both Tier 1 and Tier 1 customers.
  • Operates industrial forklift truck, cart or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products. Performs daily forklift battery PM and fills out the truck log.
  • Empties metal chip dumpsters as required.
  • Transports machined housings, plated housings, and finished goods to appropriate storage areas.
  • Prepares proper paperwork for Fed Ex, UPS and third party billing.
  • Ensures raw material and finished goods FIFO (first in / first out) is maintained.
  • Utilizes standardized work documents to ensure procedures for staging and receiving are followed.
  • Communicates shipment concerns to the Shipping/Receiving Supervisor or PC Manager to assure 100% on-time delivery.
  • Maintains minimum inventory of packaging required for export and service parts, including plastic bags, wooden skids, VCI sheets, export boxes and service part labels.
  • Maintains 5'S of Shipping and Receiving area.
  • Submits suggestions for improvements (Kaizen).
  • Maintains and provides a safe work area and works in a safe manner.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Language

    Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret a variety of documents such as manifests, bill of lading, correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one or small group situations.
  • Mathematical

    Skills:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Proficiency:
    Basic understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, and tablet/scanner use for AIM.
  • Physical Demands:
    Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Vision: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work Environment:
    Moderate noise level. Work area is a warehouse environment.
