SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Interns get hands‑on experience working to help evaluate and coordinate services for children and their families, both on campus and in their communities. Interns are responsible for individual and family therapy, as well as case management for a caseload of two to three children. In addition, interns serve as primary group facilitator for at least one group of eight children. They are also asked to develop and facilitate a short‑term psycho‑education, clinical issue‑specific or behavior change group during their time here.

Residential Social Work interns are expected to attend staff meetings, peer consultation, clinical seminars, treatment reviews and case conferences. Interns are also required to work one evening (11am-7pm) a week.

Interns participate in Green Chimneys staff training, which includes certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), First Aid/CPR and Child Abuse and Maltreatment for Mandated Reporters. All interns report to a Licensed Social Worker who guides them through a school year‑long internship.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Enrolled assecond year field placement in a graduate program
  • Flexibility:
    With regard to working hours (school hours are 8:00-3:00), treatment modality (different things work with different clients), and ability to adapt quickly to change and the unexpected
  • Comfortable around animals: our campus is located on a farm and we have some free‑roaming animals, as well as frequently walked animals, and staff who utilize their pets daily (mainly dogs)
  • Ability to work well with others, particularly education staff:
    Treatment teams are multi‑disciplinary and require working cooperatively in order to deliver the most effective treatment
  • Some experience working with families a big plus
  • Must be eligible to gain academic credit toward a degree program

This internship will run the length of the  School Year September to June.
