Job Title:

Registered Behavior Technician

Reports To:

Principal, Director of Special Education; RBT will work under the direction of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

Job Goal:
To provide behavioral support services to students with behavioral, social, emotional, communication, and developmental needs through the implementation of evidence-based behavior intervention strategies under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or other qualified professional. The RBT supports students in accessing instruction and participating successfully in the school environment by facilitating behavior intervention strategies and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students to address behavioral goals.

The RBT also assists school personnel in implementing effective student behavior plans (BIPs) to support students' personal, social, functional, and behavioral development across school settings.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Associate degree, two years of higher education, or successful completion of the Work Keys assessment required

* Ability to obtain and maintain Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential requirements, including:

* Completion of the required 40-hour RBT training

* Successful completion of the competency assessment

* Successful passage of the RBT examination

* Experience working with children or students preferred, particularly students with behavioral or developmental needs

* Ability to implement behavioral strategies and interventions with school-age students

* Ability to work independently with students while maintaining appropriate supervision and communication with school personnel

* Effective communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills

* Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow district procedures and professional expectations

Required

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities associated with the RBT position include student support, implementing behavioral interventions, collecting and documenting data, collaborating and communicating with others, and ensuring safety and compliance.

* Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and individualized behavioral supports developed by the BCBA or educational team

* Provide direct behavioral support to students individually and in small group settings

* Assist students in developing social, communication, academic, adaptive, and behavioral skills

* Support students during instructional and non-instructional settings, including classrooms, lunchroom, recess, transitions, buses, field-trips, and community-based instruction, when applicable

* Utilize positive reinforcement and proactive behavior strategies to increase appropriate behaviors

* Assist students in de-escalation and emotional regulation using approved district procedures

* Assist teacher(s) with the basic physical needs of students

* Maintain professional boundaries and appropriate interactions with students at all times

* Collect accurate behavioral and instructional data as directed

* Maintain records regarding student progress and behavioral performance

* Assist in monitoring progress toward behavioral and functional goals

* Report concerns, incidents, or significant behavioral changes to appropriate staff members promptly

* Complete required documentation in accordance with district procedures and timelines

* Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators to support student success

* Plan regularly with assigned teacher(s) and assist the teacher(s) in preparing materials necessary for a positive learning environment.

* Assist school personnel in implementing behavior supports and interventions consistently across settings

* Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities as assigned

* Follow directions and guidance provided by the supervising BCBA or designated administrator

* Follow Board policies, Alabama State Department of Education guidelines, district procedures, and BACB ethical standards

* Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information

* Implement crisis prevention and intervention procedures according to district policy

* Assist in maintaining a safe, structured, and positive learning environment

* Maintain required certification, training, and supervision documentation

* Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising BCBA, special education director, or school administrator

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies, positive behavior supports, and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles

* Ability to implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and behavioral interventions consistently across settings

* Ability to work effectively with students with behavioral, emotional, social, communication, or developmental needs

* Ability to collect and maintain accurate behavioral and instructional data

* Effective communication, collaboration, organizational, and problem-solving skills
