The employee must safely and efficiently operate a road grader, backhoe, excavator, loader, steel rollers, and other equipment as directed, as well as provide manual labor for the reconstruction, improvement, and maintenance of county roads, drainage ditches, and bridges. Responsibilities include using weed eater, bush axe, shovel, vibratory compactor, chainsaw, and other tools to maintain and improve County rights‑of‑way. The employee is responsible for routine equipment upkeep, daily equipment inspections (fluids, tire pressure, grease points, etc.),
completing maintenance and daily activity reports, scheduling monthly maintenance, and assisting other crews within the department as needed.
- Good vision (corrective lens acceptable)
- Good hearing (hearing aid acceptable)
- Clear speech to communicate with the public and workers and use telephone and two‑way radio
- Ability to move body to place traffic markings, operate equipment and motor vehicles, handle signs and hand tools
- Strength to lift 50 pounds and use hand tools
- Ability to stand all day
- Willingness to work overtime and non‑standard hours as needed
- Willingness to travel for school and training
- Assistance in Disaster Recovery efforts as needed
- Must register with FMCSA and maintain a Class B CDL in good standing
- Valid Driver’s License or Class B license; insurable by the County’s insurance standards
