Temporary Cost Accounting Manager

Client Overview:

Our client, a large, well-established organization, is seeking a Temporary Cost Accounting Manager to support corporate accounting and close activities during a temporary coverage period. This role partners with cross-functional stakeholders, supports audit requests, and helps drive process improvements within a structured, compliance-focused environment.

$80/hr - $90/hr

Our client is hiring a Temporary Cost Accounting Manager for a 5-month assignment supporting month-end close, forecasting, budgeting, balance sheet oversight, and payroll accounting for North America. The role will also support GAAP research, SOX compliance, and shared services process transition/oversight. This is a hands‑on role with leadership responsibilities, including guidance to analysts and strong collaboration across internal teams and external partners.

• Manage month-end close, forecasting, and budgeting for assigned balance sheet areas:
  • Review actuals for completeness/accuracy and proper accounting treatment/classification.
  • Compile/review monthly balance sheet deliverables and explain significant variances vs. forecast/budget.
  • Oversee quarterly account reconciliations and deliverables for financial reporting and external auditors (e.g., payroll/payroll tax accruals, bank recs, employee benefits, other accruals).
  • Challenge forecast/budget assumptions (timing and amounts) for reasonableness.
  • Provide guidance to analysts.
  • Identify, communicate, and track risks/opportunities promptly.
• Manage accounting for employee benefits and other accruals:
  • Coordinate with internal teams and third parties to support accruals.
  • Document and review key assumptions.
  • Support preparation/review of annual schedules supporting the Company’s 10‑K.
• Own North America payroll accounting activities:
  • Identify and resolve interface errors promptly.
  • Coordinate with ADP / third‑party payroll provider as needed.
• Support Senior Director of Corporate Accounting with special projects and GAAP research.
• Shared Service Center establishment and oversight:
  • Partner with shared services to transition/manage transactional responsibilities (e.g., account reconciliations).
  • Provide training and oversight to ensure compliance and efficiency.
• Leadership & stakeholder management:
  • Prepare/review audit support (internal/external) and respond to requests.
  • Ensure SOX compliance for account‑related controls.
  • Provide information to Tax to support tax provision, returns, and audits.

• Cost accounting and corporate accounting leadership experience (manager level).
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SOX compliance.
• Payroll accounting experience (North America), including troubleshooting interface/errors.
• SAP S/4 experience.
• Strong Excel skills (plus PowerPoint and Word).
• Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
• Close attention to detail with a process‑improvement/automation mindset.
• Experience working end‑to‑end accounting processes and collaborating with global teams.

• SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) experience.
• Experience partnering with/transitioning work to a Shared Service Center model.
• GAAP research experience and special project leadership.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
• CPA and/or advanced degree is a plus, but not required.
