New Jersey Resources is seeking a System Planner to develop and maintain pipeline system hydraulic models using steady state flow simulation techniques to analyze and recommend additional facilities and upgrades required to ensure the proper, cost-effective design, evaluation, and operation of the company's natural gas infrastructure.
Major Responsibilities
Utilize computer modeling and data analysis tools to aid in the evaluation, justification, and development of solutions to gas system issues and/or opportunities.
Using Synergi Gas Model Builder module to perform correction and verification of extracted data from GIS Mapping Systems to ensure new and replaced facilities and system changes are accurately and timely updated in the hydraulic network models.
Collaborate with CIS analysts annually to extract and map the data into customer's base, calculate a base load and heating gas usage factors for each customer using CMM's Load Factor Generator based on the billing history and weather record from SCADA through regression analysis. Perform manual customer assignments process if necessary.
Analyze and simulate annual peak day system operational conditions to best validate existing network models' system flow and pressure characteristics needed to accurately forecast various scenarios due to proposed system changes, scheduled shutdowns, and emergency conditions.
Based on Marketing's annual load growth forecast and Gas Supply's portfolio projections, develop various degree day (DD) models for annual system planning studies including contingency studies.
Evaluate the effects of proposed large volume commercial and industrial customers, and developments may have on the transmission and/or distribution systems and recommend necessary reinforcements to assure adequate system capacity and pressure.
Prepare and issue annual recommendations for facility improvements and enhancements that are projected to ensure the safe, reliable, and adequate operation of the company's natural gas system.
Serve in an advisory capacity to department management in the planning, studying, evaluating, and recommending of long-range capital improvements and major system reinforcements.
Apply systems and processes knowledge to assist the project engineers in decision making, potential project development, and adequate system design.
Define system constraints, determine maximum system through puts, evaluate system measurement, and pressure control equipment for optimization of operational constraints.
Keep up with latest modeling software development and knowledge, sharpening new skill sets to develop innovative tools, facilitate improvements in design modeling philosophies, and provide training and support to enhance the company's capabilities in hydraulic modeling.
Troubleshoot system abnormalities, and offer technical advice and assistance to the Distribution, Gas Control, and PMT departments in providing safe, reliable, adequate, and economic service.
Design and manage the installation or replacement of the company's system pressure monitoring points for SCADA, in collaboration with Gas Control.
Manage the installation and monitoring of the company's portable pressure monitoring devices (Eagle/Talon system), and ensure it is operating effectively, efficiently, and accurately.
Work in partnership with the Instrumentation Shop, regarding pressure monitoring equipment inventory, identifying appropriate monitoring locations, relocating, along with troubleshooting monitoring devices using Talon software.
Any other duties and responsibilities determined appropriate by department management.
Position Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in STEM Or associate's degree in STEM with 2 years of relevant experience in steady state gas analysis or gas hydraulic modeling software such as Synergi Gas.
0-2 years of relevant experience is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS and Energy Operations ystems is preferred.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and negotiation skills.
Must be detail-oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
This position is safety sensitive.
