Job Title: Street Lighting Labourer

Location: Bridgend

Hours: Monday to Friday

Pay Rate: £13.05 Per Hour

About the Role: We are looking for a reliable Street Lighting Labourer to support the Street Lighting Team within the Communities Directorate. In this role, you will provide crucial knowledge and experience in highways maintenance and excavation. You will be working directly in an electrical environment to carefully expose underground cable networks. You will be joining our dedicated department to help manage the current workload and keep our local infrastructure safe and operational.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake highways excavation and reinstatement tasks.
  • Install street lighting columns, bollards, and signs, which includes safe back filling, lifting, and reinstatement.
  • Safely expose mains low voltage cable networks.
  • Drive vans, trucks, and mobile elevated work platforms.
  • Fulfil the general and specific roles and responsibilities detailed in the Health and Safety Policy.
  • Ensure all activities are operated in accordance with Equal Opportunities legislation and best practice.
  • Actively protect children, young people, or adults at risk as a core safeguarding responsibility, reporting any concerns to the MASH team.
Requirements:
  • Experience in excavation of highways and general labourer works (Essential).
  • Hold a valid Drivers Licence up to 3.5T (Essential).
  • Hold a street works card in highways excavation and reinstatement or be willing to undertake training in order to attain this.
  • Possess basic knowledge of underground electrics and have an understanding of working in an electrical environment.
  • Experience in driving and operating a variety of vehicles up to and including 7.5 ton.
  • Experience operating tools and equipment, such as a pace breaker.
  • Understanding of traffic management and maintenance of chapter 8.
  • Ability to read and work with engineering and PUSWA drawings.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, think clearly, follow instructions, and communicate effectively.
  • Desirable training/qualifications include G39, CSCS, Manual Handling, and CPC.
  • Must be willing to undergo Health Surveillance including HAVS (Hand Arm Vibration), Traffic Management, and Audiometry Testing.
