The Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising, labor management, and planning of inbound, outbound, product slotting and customer communication activities daily, including labor scheduling, space utilization, equipment and manpower. People management responsibilities include hiring and training, planning and assigning daily work, conducting performance appraisals, addressing performance issues and resolving problems. Under the direction of the Operations Manager or Distribution Center Manager, the Supervisor is responsible for supervising the receiving, warehousing and shipping of products in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives.
As part of the DSV team, associates are expected to meet company objectives in the areas of performance, safety, and quality, and comply with all corporate and site‑specific policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct staff meetings to review daily and weekly work activities and plan for continuous improvement.
- Keep senior management and client representatives informed of critical issues that affect operations.
- Develop systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment, and products safely and profitably in accordance with company policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Manage operations to meet prescribed productivity and service goals; comply with the site’s operating agreement with the client.
- Implement and report on ongoing cost‑saving measures; provide ideas for more efficient operations.
- Meet all client‑specified KPIs and comply with quality system requirements.
- Apply sound communication and motivational techniques, create programs to fairly supervise, counsel, and discipline team members.
- Provide direction and support to Human Resources; assist in hiring, training, and professional development programs.
- Participate in performance evaluation system for recommending promotions, wage increases, and other HR activities.
- Provide overall training and evaluation responsibilities for warehouse staff.
- Plan the daily work schedule by reviewing existing work orders, arrival notices, and customer instructions; assess priorities.
- Assign duties to appropriate warehouse staff.
- Review pending jobs or trends and plan for reorganization of warehouse space and staffing needs.
- Train new staff in assigned duties; assess progress and add additional duties as appropriate.
- Keep informed of quantity and quality of jobs and provide guidance and advice as needed.
- Assign supervisory duties to experienced team members acting as leads for lower‑level staff; keep abreast of progress.
- Keep manager advised of progress or problems requiring attention on a daily basis; hold regular meetings with staff to assess status and discuss improvement ideas.
- Assist in the physical operations as needed.
- Deliver results by leveraging the skills of the right people at the right time.
- Maintain high motivation among team members to focus on customer satisfaction.
- Provide ongoing growth and development opportunities for team members.
- Provide input and conduct annual performance reviews for team members.
- Support adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and train team members accordingly.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Minimum 3 years experience in a logistics/distribution or related environment.
- Minimum 1 year supervisory experience.
- Preferred: MHE certification or knowledge of basic MHE operation.
- Successful completion of a forklift training program.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); RF scanners; WMS functions.
- English proficiency (reading, writing, verbal). Business communication skills.
- Basic to intermediate mathematical skills for verifying quantities, counting inventory.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy; timely task completion.
- Good organizational, personnel, and communication skills.
- Leadership, supervision, and planning abilities.
