Job Summary
Special Education Teacher in the Connecticut Department of Correction Unified School District #1. Responsible for teaching early intervention, elementary, secondary, special subject, and special education curricula to incarcerated individuals.

Step 1 (minimum): $72,275–$81,208
Step 13–15 (maximum): $111,912–$140,620
Responsibilities- Prioritize safety and security for staff, victims, citizens, and offenders
- Teach early intervention, elementary, secondary, special subject, and/or special education curricula
- Develop educational plans for individuals and groups
- Set short‑ and long‑term goals and evaluate student progress
- Participate in planning team meetings and case‑review conferences to assess student behavior
- Hold conferences with parents or officials concerning student performance
- Collaborate with professionals in ancillary educational roles
- Maintain student records and write reports
- Model positive teaching practices
- Connecticut Teaching Endorsements 065, 165, or 265 (active, initial, provisional, or professional)
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
- Understanding of various learning styles and ability to teach to ability levels
- Ability to work across multiple disciplines throughout the day
- Knowledge of classroom routines and discipline
- Outstanding interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow class schedule which may change unexpectedly
- Valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate appropriate to assignment
- For some positions, a valid Connecticut motor‑vehicle operator’s license
