Position: A003, (10 Month) Salary Range/Step: $31,769.00 (Step
1) To $42,596.00 (Step
6) Current members of AFSCME Local 1522 will be given first opportunity to fill the position.
- Assists Special Education Teacher with instructional and non-instructional duties (i.e., instruction, student discipline, implementation of school philosophy, etc.)
- Assists Regular Education Teacher, when assigned, at the time special education students are mainstreamed into regular education classes
- Assists children on and off school buses
- Assists children who are confined to wheelchairs, as required
- Assists in toileting and pamper changing, including those confined to wheelchairs when necessary pursuant to universal precautions; assist in hygiene training as required
- Assists in feeding children, including spoon-feeding as required
- Assists adolescent girls in attending to personal needs
- Assists in special areas (i.e., gym, art, music, library, etc.) as required
- Presents materials to the students in a manner consistent with teacher instruction
- Provides each student with positive reinforcement for appropriate work and behavior
- Assists with the arrival and dismissal of students, as required
- Providers teachers with feedback on children's performance and behavior in all areas of the school
- Attends job related in-service workshops and staff meetings per union contract
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Associates degree, the equivalent of 60 college credits, or successful passing of the Para Pro Assessment Exam
- Bilingual/Bicultural (as appropriate)
- Demonstrates aptitude for work to be performed
- Demonstrates ability to work well with children, staff, and parent(s)/public
- Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Computer proficient

* This position is in accordance with the Agreement between the City of Bridgeport and American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 1522. The salary range is for List B, promotional opportunity position and to commensurate with experience and qualifications.
