The State of Connecticut, Department of Correction (DOC) seeks enthusiastic and experienced Special Education Teachers to fill positions across the State. • Schedule:
  
  First shift, full time (35 hours per week), Monday through Friday
• Academic calendar:
  Unified School District #1 follows a 12‑month school calendar, 222 school days per year
• Training: 14‑week training at the CT DOC Training Academy (details in the Selection Plan)

  All DOC facilities in Connecticut
• Salary:
  Step 1 (minimum) $72,275 to $81,208;
  Step 13‑15 (maximum) $111,912 to $140,620. Starting salary is non‑negotiable and corresponds to the highest level of education.

• Prioritize safety and security for staff, victims, citizens, and offenders
• Teach early intervention, elementary, secondary, special subject, and/or special education curricula
• Develop individualized educational plans for students and groups
• Set short‑ and long‑term goals and evaluate student progress
• Participate in planning team meetings and case‑review conferences to assess student behavior
• Hold conferences with parents or officials on student performance
• Collaborate with ancillary educational professionals
• Maintain student records and write reports
• Model positive teaching practices

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.

• Teaching experience with a diverse student population
• Experience working in correctional or similarly structured environments
• Experience participating in the Performance Planning and Teaching (PPT) process
• Experience gathering data for annual goals and objectives
• Experience with transition planning and RTI/SRBI/MTSS frameworks
• Experience with CT Special Education Data Systems for IEP creation and review
• Experience administering, scoring, and analyzing achievement assessments
• Experience writing comprehensive achievement evaluations and assessments
• Experience with special education identification and referral processes

• Knowledge of educational philosophy and teaching methods
• Knowledge of special needs education principles and practices
• Skill in motivating students and communicating at appropriate levels
• Ability to establish cooperative relationships with colleagues and support staff
• Skill in preparing written reports and documentation

• Employment is conditional upon possession of a valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate appropriate for the assignment
• Possession of a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle operator's license may be required
