Position: Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Bridgeport, Connecticut

Step into a dynamic school environment as an ASL Language Facilitator, supporting a diverse student population in an urban setting near Bridgeport, CT. This full-time contract position (32.5 hours per week) runs from ASAP through June 11th, 2027, offering a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a student’s educational journey.

Your primary responsibility centers on 1:1 support for a preschooler—or potentially another student matched to your background—ensuring comprehension and language accessibility through ASL. You'll serve as both interpreter and tutor, working directly to build ASL vocabulary, facilitate learning, and nurture a positive, inclusive classroom experience.

Key

Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or Paraprofessional.
  • Strong background working in school settings, ideally with a range of age groups.
  • RID certification or EIPA score preferred; willingness to work toward certification is highly valued.
  • Ability to tailor communication and instructional techniques to individual student needs.
  • Passion for supporting students’ language development and inclusive educational access.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 sign language interpretation and instructional support in the classroom.
  • Tutor and reinforce educational material using ASL, focusing on conceptual understanding and vocabulary development.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, staff, and families to adapt support strategies.
  • Participate in a collaborative virtual interview with the Director and Teacher of the Deaf, who will work to ensure the best fit based on your strengths and experience.
