Lead Plant Operator
Bridgeport, CT | $56.00 to $61.00 per hour
A power generation facility in Bridgeport, CT is seeking an experienced Lead Plant Operator to oversee daily plant operations across a 12‑hour rotating shift schedule. This senior operations role is responsible for directing plant operators, driving optimal megawatt output, and ensuring the facility runs safely while meeting all environmental and reliability compliance requirements. The position reports to the Operations Manager and serves as the primary operational authority on shift.
Schedule12‑hour rotating shifts supporting continuous plant operations. Overtime, on‑call availability, and occasional weekend and holiday coverage required.
Compensation$56.00 to $61.00 per hour. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k); and paid time off.
What You’ll DoThe Lead Plant Operator manages all operational activities at the facility during assigned shifts, directing the implementation of the Operating Plan and ensuring that dispatch outputs are met safely and in compliance with all regulatory requirements. You will use PI software and other operational data tools to monitor plant performance from both a granular and system‑wide perspective, ensuring equipment and processes run at optimal efficiency within OEM guidelines.
You will operate and review all operational data, readings, log sheets, and water chemistry analyses, taking appropriate action when readings fall outside expected parameters. In the event of abnormal or emergency plant conditions, you will execute the appropriate initial response and report to Plant Management immediately. You will set operational priorities for maintenance‑related activities, provide guidance to the Maintenance Manager and maintenance personnel regarding equipment conditions, and coordinate corrective actions with the appropriate teams.
Environmental compliance is a core accountability of this role. You will oversee the Environmental QA/QC Manual, ensure the facility meets all environmental regulatory requirements, and report environmental incidents and near misses to the EHS Coordinator, Operations Manager, or General Manager as appropriate.
As the senior operator on shift, you will direct, coach, and develop plant operators. Responsibilities include managing and maintaining the plant Training Manual for the Operations department, preparing compliance reports for management reflecting safety, environmental, and revenue performance, and keeping Operations Manuals current. You will also support the screening and hiring of operating personnel as requested, assist with inventory tracking and ordering of chemicals, gases, and lubricants, and refer collective bargaining agreement and HR matters to the Operations Manager promptly.
Required Qualifications- Minimum 5 years of power plant or directly comparable operations experience
- Minimum 3 years of combined cycle plant experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience supervising craft or operations personnel
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong emphasis on Excel and Word
- Experience using PI (OSIsoft) or equivalent plant historian and operational data tools
- Ability to work 12‑hour rotating shifts including overtime, on‑call, weekends, and holidays
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to pass a post‑offer physical examination and drug screening
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells, and work outdoors in inclement weather for extended periods
- Ability to wear a respirator and required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, and protective clothing
- Ability to work in proximity to loud noise, high‑pressure steam, hot pipes, and high‑voltage equipment
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a technical or engineering field, or equivalent formal training
- Experience with gas turbine operations
- Familiarity with Red Tag Pro permit and lockout/tagout management software
- Background in environmental regulatory compliance and incident reporting in a power generation setting
- Experience maintaining or contributing to Operations Manuals and plant training programs
