Lead Plant Operator
Bridgeport, CT | $56 to $61 per hour
A power generation facility is hiring a Lead Plant Operator to manage daily plant operations, direct implementation of the Operating Plan, and ensure the facility operates safely and within all environmental and reliability compliance requirements. This role drives revenue goals through consistent, optimal megawatt output and provides direction, coaching, and development to Plant Operators.
Schedule12 hour rotating shift for continuous facility operations, with overtime, on call availability, and flexible hours required as needed, including weekends and holidays.
Compensation$56 to $61 per hour, based on experience.
What You'll DoThe Lead Plant Operator will promote a safe and healthy work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors, including effective use of required personal protective equipment, programs, and procedures. This person will direct, coach, and develop Plant Operators to meet dispatch outputs safely and in compliance with regulatory requirements, set operational priorities on maintenance related activities, and determine whether electrical outputs were maximized relative to dispatch.
The role includes overseeing all operational activities at the facility, using PI and operational data to ensure optimization and efficiency, and reporting abnormal or emergency plant conditions to Plant Management with appropriate corrective action. This person will operate and review operational data, readings, log sheets, and water chemistry testing to ensure equipment and systems operate within expected ranges, refer Human Resources and Collective Bargaining Agreement issues to the Operations Manager, and provide guidance to the Maintenance Manager and maintenance employees on equipment conditions and required activities.
Additional responsibilities include overseeing the Environmental QA/QC Manual and reporting environmental incidents as necessary, managing and directing Plant Operator training and maintaining the Training Manual, preparing compliance reports for Safety, Environmental, and Revenue goals, maintaining Operations Manuals, supporting a positive facility morale, supporting inventory tracking and ordering of chemicals, gases, and lubricants, and assisting with screening and hiring of operating personnel as requested by management.
- 5+ years of power plant or similar experience
- 3+ years of combined cycle experience
- Ability to work a 12 hour rotating shift, including overtime, on call coverage, and flexible hours as needed
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells, and work outdoors in inclement weather for extended periods
- Ability to wear a respirator and required personal protective equipment
- Valid driver's license
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Ability to pass a post offer physical examination and drug screening
- Bachelor's, Associate's, or equivalent degree
- Gas turbine operations experience
- 2+ years of experience supervising craft employees
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel (including PI) and Word
- Experience with Red Tag Pro
- $56 to $61 per hour
