Job Description

The Derivative Designer is responsible for all aspects of the design process, transforming the initial conceptual design into working submittal documents using CAD, and producing fabrication documents from those submittal documents.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize information from System Design Leader/Project Design Manager to create submittal documents, shop and fabrication drawings.
  • Understand project specifications, including typologies, areas and systems used in various projects.
  • Adhere to the project phases determined by the Design Project Manager.
  • Coordinate with the Design Project Manager for any special conditions required by the project.
  • Study and develop shop drawings, fabrication drawings and PMF.
  • Be fully conversant with the Group’s Design Process.
  • Mentor and instruct junior team members.
  • Conduct thorough initial checks of all work done by team members before issuing to the PDM.
  • Supervise and assist with the production of all elevation, floor plan and detail drawings according to the project working program.
  • Report to the SDL & PDM any slips or deviations from the program.
  • Ensure derivative design drawings tally with structural calculations.
  • Participate in safety initiatives and programs, including safety committee, inspections, evacuations and training.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or Associate’s degree with relevant experience in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Solid Works; experience with Microsoft Office.
  • 3–5 years of related experience; experience in construction or curtain wall industries a plus.
