Job Summary

The Strategic Portfolio Management function drives the organization’s transformation strategy by establishing and institutionalizing a governance model for the Arch Insurance North America strategic portfolio, including initiative scoping, prioritization, project management, structure and value tracking. The AVP Strategic Portfolio Financial Management Lead will lead financial management practices for the function, providing portfolio-level visibility into initiative costs, benefits, forecasts, variances, funding considerations, and financial risks.

This role supports informed decision‑making by senior leaders and strengthens financial discipline, governance, and transparency across the strategic initiative portfolio.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and refinement of SPM financial management standards, governance processes, controls, reporting, and decision‑support practices.
  • Serve as the primary SPM financial management lead and trusted advisor to Strategic Portfolio Management, Finance, and portfolio stakeholders.
  • Oversee portfolio financial management, including actuals, forecasts, cost estimates, benefits, variances, funding considerations, financial risks, and management commentary.
  • Lead quarterly financial reporting governance, including review, reconciliation, variance analysis, executive messaging, and follow‑through on material financial risks or issues.
  • Support the maturation and adoption of financial management capabilities in Clarity, Workday, and related platforms.
  • Develop guidance, templates, decision frameworks, and training materials to promote consistent financial management practices across the initiative lifecycle.
  • Provide financial advisory and as‑needed hands‑on support on initiative/portfolio financials including business case development, prioritization, planning, funding review, and change request impact assessment.
  • Partner across Strategic Portfolio Management (Business Outcome Management & Governance), Finance, Technology, Strategic Analytics, and business stakeholders to support portfolio governance, benefit realization, and investment decision‑making.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, simplify processes, reduce manual effort, strengthen controls, and enable scalable reporting.
  • Prepare senior leader‑ready reporting and insights that communicate portfolio financial performance, risks, trends, and decisions required.
Skills and Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, variance analysis, cost and benefit analysis, financial tracking, investment governance, and portfolio reporting practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence leaders and stakeholders across Finance, Technology, Operations, business leadership, and governance functions.
  • Ability to translate complex financial and operational information into clear insights, recommendations, and senior leader‑ready narratives.
  • Strong business acumen, executive presence, judgment, communication, facilitation, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience with dashboards, automation, or data visualization preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Management Information Systems, or a related field required; advanced degree or relevant certification preferred.
  • 8–10 years of progressive experience in financial management, portfolio management, strategic initiative management, business operations, transformation, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in the financial services or insurance industries preferred.
  • Experience with portfolio management, financial reporting, ERP, or planning tools; familiarity with Clarity and Workday preferred.
  • Experience in process design and improvement preferred.
  • Experience operating in an Agile Framework and Lean Portfolio Management strongly desired.
Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range: $111,100 – $172,465 per year. Position is incentive eligible. Total individual compensation (base salary, short‑ and long‑term incentives) will be determined based on geographic location, scope, responsibilities, qualifications, talent availability, and business needs.
