Position Overview

The Camp Ranger is responsible for the year‑round care, maintenance, and operations of Camp Pine Mountain, Camp Frank G. Lumpkin, and Camp Gallant under the Chattahoochee Council. This position ensures that all properties are safe, clean, operational, and ready for Scouting activities and events. The Ranger plays a critical role in the long‑term preservation of camp resources, supports council programs, and serves as a point of contact for volunteers, units, and outside vendors.

Responsibilities

(This does not exhaust the list of responsibilities.) Maintenance & Property Management
  • Perform regular maintenance, repairs, and improvements on buildings, campsites, roads, and program areas.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment, tools, vehicles, and machinery across all camp properties.
  • Maintain landscaping, trails, and natural areas for accessibility and safety.
  • Conduct inspections of buildings, plumbing, electrical systems, and fire safety equipment.
  • Maintain all necessary certifications needed for operating equipment, waterfront, water testing, electrical, light repairs, and other maintenance of all facilities.
Facility Readiness & Support
  • Ensure facilities are clean, stocked, and operational for year‑round events and summer camp operations.
  • Prepare facilities for seasonal use (opening/closing buildings, winterizing systems, etc.).
  • Coordinate and support council program delivery at all camps, including setup, logistics, and resource allocation.
Security & Safety
  • Provide on‑site presence at Camp Frank G. Lumpkin; monitor all properties regularly for security and safety.
  • Respond to emergencies and perform basic first‑response actions when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with BSA National Camp Standards, OSHA, and local regulations.
Volunteer & Staff Engagement
  • Supervise and assist volunteer work crews, Eagle Scout projects, and Order of the Arrow service weekends.
  • Work closely with council staff and key volunteers to identify project priorities and needs.
  • Provide training and supervision to seasonal or part‑time caretakers, if applicable.
  • Recruit, retain volunteers for the Camp Master Corp to serve at all camps during use of camp use.
  • Member of the Program Committee and Properties Committee. (Order of the Arrow (OA) is a plus).
Administrative & Planning
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities, inventory, and supply needs.
  • Assist in planning and executing capital projects and facility upgrades.
  • Manage budgets for routine repairs, equipment, and materials (within guidelines provided).
Qualifications
  • Skilled in facilities maintenance, basic construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Self‑starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks across multiple sites.
  • Comfortable working independently and making sound decisions in the field.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Physically capable of performing labor‑intensive tasks and working outdoors in all seasons.
  • Must live on‑site at Camp Frank G. Lumpkin (FGL) or within close proximity (housing provided).
  • Previous experience with BSA camps, Scouting programs, or conservation management preferred.
