RoleOpen to Physician Assistants and Acute Care Nurse Practitioners in Cardiac Surgery.
SettingInpatient, cardiac surgical services
Schedule13‑hour shifts, 3 times per week. Full‑time salaried, rotating includes day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday coverage. Possibility to do permanent night shifts.
ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of a cardiothoracic surgeon, provide a range of duties including first assisting cardiovascular surgical procedures, endoscopic vessel harvesting, preoperative history and physical examination, postoperative care including ICU and step‑down management, and inpatient consults.
Support patient care from admission to discharge including Step‑Down, ICU and OR. Manage multiple patients with varied critical illness, perform comprehensive physical assessments, interpret diagnostic results, manage hemodynamic/ventilator care and conduct invasive procedures. Preferred experience includes arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes and feeding tubes.

- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN Master’s program
- Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN in the state of Connecticut
- Certification or eligible to be certified as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN
- 1+ years’ experience in cardiovascular surgery preferred and/or 2+ years’ experience as a PA/APRN in a critical‑care setting
- First‑assistant experience, including endoscopic vein harvesting skills preferred
