Lead Neurosurgery Advanced Practice Provider

Outstanding opportunity to join a national leader in Neuroscience. The Ayer Neuroscience Institute at Hartford Health Care is seeking a Lead Neurosurgery Advanced Practice Provider to join our growing, high-performing Advanced Practice team cent's Medical Center. As part of our 24/7 APP-driven service, you will practice with a high level of autonomy while being fully supported by a collaborative team of expert neurosurgeons and experienced APPs.

Our team provides exceptional care across all areas of neurosurgery, from minimally invasive and deformity spine surgery to advanced cranial, neurovascular, and neurotrauma cases.

In addition to providing comprehensive neurosurgical patient care, the Lead Advanced Practice Provider serves as a clinical leader and resource for the Neurosurgery APP team. This role supports clinical excellence through mentorship, onboarding, education, quality improvement, and collaboration with physician and operational leadership while maintaining an active clinical practice.

The Lead APP is a frontline clinical leadership role that supports practice excellence, professional development, quality initiatives, and team effectiveness, but does not have direct personnel management responsibilities.

Position Highlights

Clinical Responsibilities (70%)

  • Manage neurosurgical spine and cranial patients in both the ICU and inpatient floor settings.
  • Perform comprehensive clinical responsibilities, including intake H&Ps, progress notes, consultations, postoperative management, and discharge planning, as well as providing neurosurgical evaluations throughout the hospital, including the Emergency Department.
  • First assist in the operating room for a wide range of emergent and elective cranial and spine procedures.
  • Participate in interventional radiology coverage for neuroendovascular cases.
  • Support the full scope of emergency and elective neurosurgical care across the service line.
  • Participate in a collaborative, 24/7 APP-covered neurosurgical service supporting inpatient, procedural, emergency, and perioperative patient care.

Lead APP Responsibilities (30%)

  • Serve as a clinical resource, mentor, and role model for Neurosurgery APP team members.
  • Support onboarding, clinical education, and professional development of APP staff.
  • Promote adherence to evidence-based practice standards, clinical pathways, and departmental workflows.
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and service line initiatives.
  • Organize case reviews and M&M
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between APPs, physicians, nursing, and leadership.
  • Support implementation of departmental and operational initiatives that enhance patient care and team effectiveness.
  • Assist with special projects and initiatives that support the goals of the Neurosurgery service line.
  • Perform other related clinical, operational, educational, and leadership duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.

Schedule

This position is part of a continuous 24/7 APP-covered neurosurgical service line and requires flexibility to support patient care needs across the service.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of neurosurgery, neurocritical care, or related neuroscience APP experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a preceptor, mentor, or clinical leader.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience participating in quality improvement, education, or program development initiatives preferred.

Qualifications

  • Board-Certified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
  • First Assist certification/experience required.
