Dishwasher – Thomas Merton Family Center

The Thomas Merton Family Center, located in Bridgeport CT, is seeking a part-time Dishwasher. The position supports the daily operations of the TMFC Kitchen Services Department by ensuring all dishes, cookware, utensils, and kitchen areas are properly cleaned and sanitized during meal service hours. This role plays a critical part in maintaining food safety standards, operational efficiency, and a clean kitchen environment during high‑volume meal service.

This is a part‑time position, scheduled for approximately 20 hours per week, with regular hours from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm during kitchen serving hours. Weekend availability may be required based on program needs.

Accountabilities
  • Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, trays, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment during meal service.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dishwashing station and surrounding work areas.
  • Support kitchen staff by ensuring a continuous supply of clean dishware during serving hours.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department guidelines.
  • Remove trash continuously throughout the day to maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards.
  • Sweep and mop kitchen floors as needed to ensure a safe and sanitary work environment.
  • Assist with end‑of‑day kitchen clean‑up, including workstations, equipment, and assigned areas.
  • Clean and maintain the grease trap as needed, following proper safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Follow instructions and task assignments provided by the Kitchen Manager.
  • Support weekend meal service operations when scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support kitchen operations and program needs.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior experience in food service or dishwashing preferred but not required.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to follow food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to lift and carry kitchen items up to approximately 40 pounds.
  • Reliable and punctual with consistent attendance during scheduled serving hours.
Qualifications and Characteristics
  • Comfortable working in a busy kitchen serving a diverse population.
  • Team‑oriented and able to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers.
