Mission

Bridgeport Caribe Youth Leader’s mission is to provide youth with sports, educational, and civic direction helping them build the character and self-esteem they need to reach their full potential and value in society.

Reports To: Director of Sports

Position Overview:

The Youth Development and Support Specialist plays a critical role in the implementation of BCYL’s mission to provide youth with sports, educational, and civic direction. This position focuses on creating and facilitating restorative interventions and supporting staff in the development of positive interactions with participants. The specialist will work closely with the Director of Sports to ensure effective support and guidance are provided to participants, staff, and families in alignment with BCYL's values and Code of Conduct.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in creating and facilitating restorative interventions/processes for participants.
  • Support BCYL staff in building their capacity to implement restorative interventions and positive interactions with participants, staff, and families.
  • Provide support with participant discipline, behavior, and overall social environment.
  • Build effective relationships and communicate with participants, staff, and families.
  • Assist in the development and documentation of social environment best practices.
  • Complete and follow up on incident reports for violations of BCYL’s Code of Conduct.
  • Provide dates, times, and locations for activities and interventions as needed.
  • Provide status reports on situations requiring additional attention.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of and commitment to maintaining confidentiality in all interactions and dealings with sensitive information.
Qualifications
  • Education: Experience in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field is helpful.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in youth development, counseling, or a similar role.
Skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to coach and mentor staff and youth.
  • Knowledge of restorative practices and positive discipline strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Professional demeanor with a commitment to confidentiality and ethical conduct.
Work Environment
  • This role involves working in both office and community settings.
  • Interaction with youth, staff, and families in various environments.
  • Flexibility to work outside of traditional office hours as needed.

  • The Youth Development and Support Specialist must be fully committed to the BCYL mission, acting as a role model and advocate for the youth we serve. The specialist is expected to uphold the BCYL Code of Conduct and contribute positively to the organizational culture and community impact.
