Primary FunctionBus drivers will transport youth members from school to the clubhouse and carry staff to special events such as field trips or sporting events. Drivers must be attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring passenger safety. They must ensure their vehicles operate properly each day by testing brakes, tires, and other components. Drivers are responsible for maintaining a safe environment on the bus by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies.
They track inspections, safety drills, fuel usage, the number and names of students transported, miles driven, and communicate detailed information with supervisors regularly.
- Drive 10- or 26‑passenger vehicles in accordance with schedules, picking up and dropping off members at designated destinations.
- Obey all traffic laws and WBGC policies, including prohibition of distracted driving.
- Maintain order and discipline of youth while in the vehicle.
- Document any youth behavioral incidents or accidents during transportation.
- Practice safe drop‑off procedures, ensuring all members are accounted for.
- Conduct and log daily safety and operational inspections before and after use.
- Ensure vehicles receive quarterly safety checks and maintenance logs.
- Report needed mechanical repairs.
- Service vehicles with gas and fill tires as needed.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and security, restocking safety supplies.
- Complete mileage and other necessary reports, including passenger counts.
- Maintain logs accounting for each member’s whereabouts during transportation.
- Attend meetings and training on safety, first aid, and related topics.
- Ensure club vehicles carry required safety equipment (first aid kit, safety triangles, LED road flares, charged extinguishers, etc.).
- Collaborate with staff, parents/guardians, school administration, and the community.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Class B or higher with a PS and V endorsement on a valid CT driver’s license is required.
- Over the age of 21.
- Five years of verifiable driving experience.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Pass all required background checks.
- Pass drug screening and participate in random drug testing.
- Experience working with youth/children is a plus.
- CPR & First Aid certification is a plus.
