Primary Purpose

Provide curriculum leadership and support classroom teaching to ensure an aligned and articulated instructional program in Pre‑Kindergarten through 12th‑grade reading language arts and social studies.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited university with a major in assigned subject.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for assigned subject.
  • Minimum five years teaching experience in assigned subject area; experience in both self‑contained and departmentalized structures preferred.
  • Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation.
  • Ability to interpret data, evaluate instructional programs, and assess teaching effectiveness.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional and Program Management
  • Work cooperatively with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, other directors, and campus principals to develop and supervise instructional programs in the assigned subject area.
  • Coordinate the review, development, and revision of all reading language arts and social studies programs and related curriculum documents and materials, including curriculum guides, course outlines, district assessments, and teaching plans.
  • Plan and oversee testing programs for reading language arts, social studies, and pre‑kindergarten and make recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
  • Coordinate the ordering and use of departmental instructional aids and materials for RLA and Social Studies.
  • Use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness and recommend changes as needed.
  • Support campuses in ordering and maintaining instructional materials to facilitate full implementation of the curriculum.
  • Participate in the development, preparation, and administration of the budget for supplies, equipment, and facilities in the area of RLA and Social Studies.
Staff Development
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to develop and provide staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff in RLA, Social Studies, and pre‑kindergarten.
  • Disseminate information on current research and significant developments at the state and national levels in the assigned area; collaborate with other district leaders and national/state reading organizations to maintain knowledge on best practices in teaching RLA and SS.
  • Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation; demonstrate teaching strategies with students in classrooms.
  • Work with PLC teams, providing guidance and support for the area of RLA and Social Studies.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Telecommute in response to school closure.
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
Other
  • Convey information to parents and community members about school programs.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

    Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).

    Frequent district wide travel; occasional statewide travel.

    Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
