Overview

The incumbent has authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for delivering nursing care through the nursing process. The RN uses independent nursing judgment and competent clinical knowledge to provide care for patients and to supervise care delegated to others, in an inpatient hospital setting. The role requires knowledge and skills at the advanced beginner level and the ability to apply growth and development concepts across the lifespan.

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
  • Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice or a current multi-state RN license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Basic Life Support certification obtained within 30 days of hire date.
  • EXPERIENCE:
  • One (1) year of registered nursing experience.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN).

  • Modify patient’s plan of care based on data collection and individual needs.
  • Use Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) to provide patient care.
  • Delegate according to scope of practice.
  • Verify the plan of care with interprofessional colleagues, patient, and caregivers.
  • Provide education based on learning needs and family involvement.
  • Promote effective communication among interprofessional team members and patients/consumers.
  • Influence policy to promote safe patient care.
  • Utilize appropriate resources in providing care, including in sensitive situations.

  • Engage in activities related to nurse-sensitive indicators to enhance quality of care.

  • Complete annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, in-services, and competency validation.

  • The CAPE program is a system-wide clinical advancement program to enhance professional development, reward quality clinical performance, promote nursing quality, and improve job satisfaction for inpatient direct care nurses. To apply for the next level, the CAPE nurse must meet the requirements of their current level and the required nursing experience, degree, and certification. Nurses at levels 3–6 must complete five competencies annually to maintain their current level.
