Job Overview
This position provides anesthetic care for all types of patients and procedures in cooperation with the supervising or medically directing physician and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. The role administers anesthesia to patients, providing continuous vigilant observation during surgery or procedures and informing the surgeon/anesthesiologist of any adverse condition.
Minimum Qualifications- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of West Virginia, or applicable state.
- Board certified or recertified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
- Maintains patient safety at all times.
- Maintains excellence in airway management and familiarity with all airway adjuncts, e.g., bullard, fiber optic scope, ILMA, etc.
- CRNAs shall work within their scope of delineated clinical privileges.
- Takes appropriate precautions to minimize risks of infection.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Participates in pre‑anesthetic evaluation and selection of agents and techniques.
- Performs appropriate techniques of the anesthetic plan, including insertion of intravenous catheters, invasive monitoring catheters, endotracheal intubation and extubation, arterial punctures.
- Monitors the patient’s physical response, informs the team of any adverse condition, manages induction, maintenance, and emergence, initiates corrective measures, determines need for labs, provides resuscitative care, and evaluates the patient in the immediate postoperative period.
- Administers IV fluids and blood products per protocol.
- Documents patient status in the anesthesia record.
- Performs safety and performance checks on anesthesia equipment, verifies supplies, and assembles equipment if necessary.
- Reviews informed consent documentation, identifies surgical site via SBAR, participates in surgical pause.
- Communicates appropriately with peri‑operative and post‑operative care team.
- Provides anesthesia care in the absence of an anesthesiologist during life‑threatening emergencies.
- Assists with teaching and evaluation of newly‑hired CRNAs, GRNAs, SRNAs.
- Assumes responsibility for controlled substances per policy and guidelines.
- Maintains professionalism at all times.

- Ability to work congenially with individuals of diverse abilities.
- Possible close contact with infectious diseases and hazardous compounds.
- Must observe strict guidelines to guard against disease, radiation, needle sticks, chemicals, anesthetics.
- Risk of back injury when moving patients.
- May be required to be on call or work nights, weekends, holidays.
