Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, public health, epidemiology, clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or related field.
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi‑state RN license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) (if Bachelors in Nursing).
- Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. or obtain within three (3) years of hire date.
- State criminal background check and Federal background check as required for regulated areas.
- Five (5) years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting.
- Five (5) years’ experience in a public health setting.
- Prior experience in infection prevention.
- Monitor healthcare associated infections.
- Assess infection prevention and control problems and make recommendations for corrective action.
- Participate in the Infection Prevention and Control Committee, if applicable.
- Oversee monitoring of infection prevention and control practices and personnel compliance for all departments.
- Provide assistance to department managers in development of infection prevention and control departmental policies.
- Report communicable diseases to the local health departments and state as required by law.
- Provide educational presentations for orientation and ongoing in–services related to current recommendations and mandates.
- Consult with department leadership and physicians as needed to improve care delivery.
- Serve as a resource for all departments and personnel.
- Participate in short and long‑range planning for the infection prevention and control department.
- Provide consultation to the Associate Health Nurse Practitioner related to exposure determination, personnel infections, follow‑up, and current healthcare personnel vaccination recommendations.
- Participate in performance improvement activities and committees.
- Conduct outbreak investigations and initiate control measures.
- Assist with development, implementation, and monitoring of the TB management program.
- Review and assist with environmental sampling as necessary.
- Participate and provide oral and written infection prevention recommendations for all construction, renovation, remediation, repair, or demolition as part of a multidisciplinary team during pre‑planning, demolition, construction and commissioning.
- Collect, prepare, and analyze healthcare‑associated infection data; present data to leadership and stakeholders.
- Provide internal and external reporting of information and data as required by law, accreditation requirements and regulatory mandates.
- Assist with development, implementation, and evaluation of plans for an influx of infectious diseases.
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and feeling are necessary body movements utilized in performing duties through the work shift.
- Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Visual acuity must be within normal range.
- Manual dexterity to operate keyboards, fax machines, telephones, and other business equipment.
- Able to perform light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
- Able to move freely through the facility to perform daily and special tasks.
- Exposed to high levels of stress and anxiety.
- Experiences frequent interruption.
- Able to handle confidential information.
- Able to work successfully under highly stressful conditions and must be capable of adapting to varying workloads and assignments on a constant basis.
