American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Med/Surg night shift travel assignment at a Level II Trauma acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring Epic experience and a valid WV or compact RN license.
Requirements- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
- Valid, unexpired driver's license required for consideration
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
- Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
- Med/Surg unit (5S) in an acute care, Level II Trauma hospital setting
- Common patient diagnoses include CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, and oncology (permanent staff administer chemotherapy)
- Patient ratios are typically 1:5–6; acuity-dependent situations may occasionally result in 7 patients near end of shift
- Charting is performed in Epic
- Philips telemetry monitoring is used on most units; monitor techs are available but RNs must be able to read and interpret strips
- RT is available in-house 24/7; RNs perform aerosols for non-vented patients and EKGs
- IV team is available house-wide until 10 PM Mon–Fri and until 3:30 PM on weekends
- In-house pharmacy available 24/7 with Accudose medication dispensing
- 12-hour night shifts (7 PM–7 AM)
- Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday)
- Holiday rotation shared with permanent staff
- 13-week contract assignment
- Each unit has a charge nurse; day charge does not take a patient assignment, night charge does
- CNAs are available on all units
- Orientation consists of 1–2 shifts with a preceptor
- Royal blue scrubs required; artificial/false nails are not permitted
- If floating to Critical Care, travelers will be assigned med/surg or stepdown-type patients
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
- BSN is not required for this position
- A manager interview is required as part of the hiring process
