This position is for a registered nurse specializing in a stepdown unit. The unit has 18 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3. Common diagnoses and types of patients include post-myocardial infarction with sheath pull, ADHS, postoperative vascular cases, gastrointestinal bleed, and DKA. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable drips include nitroglycerin up to 150 mcg/kg/min, neo up to 100 mcg/min, and Cardene up to 10 mg/hr.
Both charge nurses and house supervisors are available. Under normal circumstances, charge nurses will not take on an assignment. There is one patient care technician per shift. The unit is equipped with BiPap and Cpap machines. All patients are on telemetry, and RNs are responsible for reading strips. Self-scheduling is not guaranteed, and there is currently a paper spreadsheet in use for scheduling.
The schedule includes every other weekend and holidays, which equates to approximately every other holiday. There is no call or standby requirement for this position. Floating to other units is required as needed. The dress code consists of royal scrubs, with undershirts allowed in white, royal blue, or black. Additional unit-specific orientation will be provided.
