American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg/Tele Float Pool position requiring ACLS/BLS certification and the ability to read and interpret telemetry strips.
Details- Acute care Level 2 trauma hospital setting
- Float Pool position primarily covering Med Surg/Tele units
- Most frequent float assignments include 6N (36 beds) and 7N (29 beds), with additional float coverage to 4N (36 beds), 5S (36 beds), 6S (36 beds), and Critical Care (20 beds)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of approximately 1:5-6 on most units, occasionally up to 1:7 depending on acuity
- Common diagnoses include CHF, cardiac catheterization, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, and oncology cases
- Uses Philips telemetry monitors; most units have monitor techs but RNs must be able to read and interpret strips
- Respiratory equipment limited to CPAP and BiPap, managed by Respiratory Therapy
- CNAs are utilized on all units
- Charge nurse present on every shift; night charge takes a patient assignment while day charge does not
- EPIC EMR used
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
- Every-other-weekend requirement (Sat/Sun)
- Holiday coverage required as part of the rotation with permanent staff
- Float assignments are determined by the clinical coordinator prior to shift start, with RNs typically assigned to a 'parent unit' and only basic telemetry patients within scope of practice
- No drip titration required
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN not required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Must pass a cardiac rhythm exam prior to starting
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify for travel positions
- Copy of unexpired driver's license required for consideration
- Provide direct patient care across multiple Med/Surg and Telemetry units as part of a float pool team
- Report to the clinical coordinator's office prior to shift start for daily unit assignment
- Receive 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor
- Scrub color requirement is royal blue
- Cancellation policy allows for up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract
- Previous WVU Medicine employees must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers are limited to a maximum of 1 year cumulative work within the WVU Medicine system before requiring a 2-year break
