Travel RN - Med​/Surg

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring a WV or compact RN license and 2+ years of experience.

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• BSN not required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Copy of unexpired driver's license required for consideration

• Acute care Med/Surg unit (5S) within a Level 2 trauma hospital
• Patient population includes CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, ortho, and oncology cases (chemo administered by perm staff)
• Typical patient ratios of 1:5‑6, occasionally up to 1:7 depending on acuity
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour night shifts (7p‑7a)
• Every‑other‑weekend requirement (Sat/Sun)
• Holiday rotation required alongside permanent staff
• Charge nurse present on every shift; night charge nurse takes patients
• CNAs available on the unit
• Telemetry monitoring used (Phillips); RNs must be able to read and interpret strips
• RT in‑house 24/7 manages ventilators, CPAP, and BiPAP; RNs perform aerosols for non‑vented patients and EKGs
• IV team available house‑wide until 10pm weekdays and 3:30pm weekends
• In‑house pharmacy 24/7 using Accudose
• Possible floating to Critical Care with med/surg or stepdown‑type patient assignments
• Floor‑specific orientation includes 1-2 shifts with a preceptor
• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg unit including telemetry monitoring, aerosol treatments, and EKGs
• Royal blue scrubs required
• False nails are not permitted
• Manager is open to accommodating shift preferences and block scheduling requests
• Described as a very traveler‑friendly unit
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius to be eligible for travel positions (local candidates not accepted)
• Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2‑year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one year without taking a 2‑year break
• All candidates interview directly with the unit manager
