American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring telemetry strip interpretation skills and ACLS certification.
Requirements- Active WV or compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN not required
- Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- Must pass a cardiac rhythm exam as part of the hiring process
- Not required to titrate drips
- Unexpired driver's license required for consideration
- Float pool position covering Med Surg/Tele units in an acute care, Level 2 trauma hospital
- Floats primarily to 6N (36 beds) and 7N (29 beds), with additional coverage of 4N, 5S, 6S, and Critical Care units
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6, occasionally up to 1:7 depending on acuity
- Common patient diagnoses include CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, ortho, and oncology
- Assigned a 'parent unit' and will care for basic telemetry patients within scope of practice
- Telemetry monitoring uses Phillips equipment; most units have monitor techs but RNs must read and interpret strips
- RT manages CPAP and BiPap equipment directly
- CNAs are utilized on all units
- Charge nurse available on every unit; night charge takes a patient assignment, day charge does not
- 12-hour shifts, 7a-7p or 7p-7a
- Every-other-weekend requirement, Saturday/Sunday for both day and night shifts
- Holiday coverage required as part of the rotation with permanent staff
- EPIC EMR used
- Report to the clinical coordinator's office prior to shift start for unit assignment
- Provide direct patient care to med/surg and telemetry patients across multiple float units
- 1-2 shifts of unit orientation provided with a preceptor
- Royal blue scrubs required
- First-time travelers may be considered if they can pass the required cardiac rhythm exam
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify for travel assignment
- Returning travelers must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying to any WVU Medicine location
- Cumulative WVU Medicine assignments cannot exceed one year without a 2-year break
- Cancellation policy allows up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract
