Job Description

Job Function:

Assist the Teacher in carrying out those activities which will ensure that the classroom meets with the Head Start Performance Standards and NJ/PA Licensing Regulations.

Essential Functions:

  • Fulfills the following functions as assigned and directed by supervisor(s). Floating Teacher Assistant may have a temporary assignment to a classroom, may float from classroom to classroom to provide breaks or other support, or may provide other supports to the classrooms.
  • Assist the teacher in planning and implementing educational activities in the classroom and interact with children in a developmentally appropriate manner. Assist the Teacher in the development and implementation of individualized plans for children.
  • Assist the Teacher in observing, screening, assessing, and documenting children's growth and development. Document observations and individual activities in an individual folder and database for each child.
  • Ensures the safety of all children by participating in monitoring of center, implementation of child safety procedures, reporting accidents, reporting child abuse or neglect, following Standards of Conduct, and reporting any child health/safety concern to supervisor
  • Assist in carrying out administrative duties as delegated by the teacher.
  • Assume Teacher responsibilities in the absence of the Teacher.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate records or reports. This may include maintaining daily attendance record of children and managing records of classroom in-kind. Submit accurate records of in-kind on a monthly basis.
  • Participate in weekly Center staff meetings and all other meetings as requested. Attend training and workshops.
  • Encourage and coordinate parent and volunteer involvement. Accompany Teacher in making educational Home Visits and Parent/Teacher conferences as requested by Teacher. Coordinate classroom volunteer program.
  • Any other Head Start task as delegated by Teacher or management
  • Qualifications:

  • Must have a Child Development Associate (CDA) or be currently enrolled in CDA program or be enrolled in early childhood coursework leading to an associate or bachelor degree.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must have a car available on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to read and write sufficiently to maintain proper records.
