UCHC Department Nurse Manager SWSP

Job Summary

University Correctional Healthcare (UCHC), part of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, seeks a Department Nurse Manager for Southwoods State Prison in Bridgeton, NJ. The Nurse Manager supervises nursing staff across shifts, collaborates with physicians and interdepartmental personnel, and ensures nursing practice standards align with the mission of the facility.

• Interpret and translate nursing theory into practice for adult (18‑64) and geriatric (65+) inmates.
• Participate in structuring and organizing nursing services.
• Implement nursing functions within the UCHC framework.
• Use information systems to retrieve, implement, and retain essential records and services.
• Direct and supervise nursing and health‑care services.
• Ensure cost‑effective use of resources and participate in budget preparation.
• Assist with orientation and development of staff and nursing students.
• Provide leadership in quality assurance and improvement activities and train staff and correctional officers.
• Participate in decision‑making for organized nursing services.

• Graduate from an accredited state nursing school.
• Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible nursing experience.

• Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Jersey.
• CPR certification.
• Valid driver’s license.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
• One (1) year in a specialty area of services.
